Artworks Price and the Artist Value
Often we are
asked why there is a difference in price between one artist and
another for the same format of work. The question is quite
legitimate and part of the answer comes from the market itself that
dictates the price. The more an artist is popular and in demand the
more his value is high.
Each artist
is free to fix the selling price of his works. However the right
price is the one the market is willing to pay. Some artists wil
increase their price (their value) every year because the demand is
constant and the collectors do not hesitate to continue to acquire
their works.
The artist
should be very cautious in evaluating his the selling price. The
value of an artist should never regress. We often see artists
keeping their price stable in time of economically low period.
During good economic periods the artist can more easily increase the
value of his work. All those who have acquired the artist’s work
will then see the value of their work increased by such.
The role of
the agent and the galerist consists in advising the artist by giving
him information on the market, his position on the market and in
which direction the market is moving towards.
The value of
the artist is a very important element in visual arts. The serious
artists make sure that their value is respected. And the
professional and conscientious merchants of art respect it too.
